Ross Errilly Friary holds many secrets, but few are as striking as its soaring Gothic windows their tall pointed arches still reaching skyward after 600 years of Connacht wind and rain. This ceramic lantern for candles was born from those windows.
Abbey Design Candle Light Holders bring authentic Gothic character to everyday spaces. The distinctive bottle shape, with its narrow neck and broader carved body, echoes the sturdy round towers and chimney stacks of Ireland's great Franciscan ruins. But it's the windows that make this piece truly special: the hand-carved pointed arches let candlelight pour through in warm golden pools, just as filtered light once fell across the friary's stone floors.

- Gothic window arches: Tall, hand-carved pointed arches replicate the elegant tracery of Ross Errilly's medieval windows. When lit, candlelight glows through each arch, casting dramatic shadows that shift with the flame.
- Weathered stone aesthetic: Coloured porcelain slip and embedded stones replicate the texture of ancient abbey walls, with hand-painted underglaze adding depth and character.
- Bronze glaze interior: Warm metallic glaze intensifies the candlelight, casting a golden glow through every carved opening especially beautiful through the Gothic arches.
- Traditional craftsmanship: Hand-thrown, then individually carved and finished in my Oranmore studio, County Galway.
